The MLS is one of the fastest-growing leagues globally, entering its 26th season in 2021-22. The league currently consists of 27 teams and had added the Austin FC as its newest member.

The MLS is expected to expand to 30 teams by the 2023 season. The league is divided into the Eastern and Western Conferences, and all 27 teams play a total of 34 regular season games each. Only the top 14 teams make it to the MLS Playoffs, which takes place between October and November.

The MLS teams also participate in the CONCACAF Champions League, which awards bits to the most successful teams from each domestic league in the region.
